Course Overview
The Community Caregiver & Readiness Program is a 15-week, non-credit community education course designed to equip participants with the awareness, ethical grounding, and readiness skills needed to support individuals in community, volunteer, faith-based, and non-clinical settings.
This program focuses on how to support responsibly, not how to diagnose, treat, or intervene. Participants learn to communicate respectfully, recognize safety concerns, maintain healthy boundaries, and refer to appropriate services when needs exceed their role.
The course is discussion-based, reflective, and practical, emphasizing dignity, safety, inclusion, and sustainability in community caregiving.
Course Agenda
The program is delivered over 15 weeks (30 sessions) and follows a structured learning progression:

Foundations of Community Caregiving
Role clarity, ethics, boundaries, communication, and de-escalation -
Trauma-Aware & Inclusive Practice
Trauma-informed awareness, cultural humility, safety, and clean practices -
Daily Support & Well-Being Awareness
Dignity in daily living, nutrition and hydration awareness, mental health and substance-use awareness -
Safety, Safeguarding & Escalation Readiness
Crisis awareness, suicide and self-harm awareness, domestic violence awareness, child and youth safeguarding -
Lifespan Support & Community Systems
Supporting seniors, disability inclusion, conflict resolution, documentation, and referral navigation -
Professional Readiness & Sustainability
Teamwork, professionalism, burnout prevention, self-care, and boundary maintenance -
Integration & Completion
Skills labs, case simulations, final readiness portfolio, and program wrap-up
